UPCOMING REGULATORY CHANGES
As of September 27th, 2020 the Federal Government will be transitioning the remaining recipients of CERB to either Regular Employment Insurance or a variety of new Recovery Benefits, please follow the link above to see what program you may fall under.
If you originally filed for EI when you were laid off in March, then you will not need to reapply, you will continue on as normal. The only changes will be in the monetary amount you receive.
Once Service Canada has transitioned you over, please check back to your main claim page. You will now be able to apply for your Income Security through MAI, and will require a copy of that claim page to accompany your application. The application can be found on your MAI My Port.
BILL C-65: WORKPLACE HARASSMENT AND VIOLENCE PREVENTION REGULATIONS
On January 1, 2021 the Federal Government will be making changes to the Canada Labour Code Pt. II, as well as the Canadian Occupational Health & Safety Regulations. These changes all revolve around Workplace Harassment and Violence.
A brief synopsis of the changes include, things that have been done unilaterally in the past, must now be done jointly. These include: workplace assessments, identifying risk factors, preventative measures development and implementation, workplace violence and harassment policy, and training.
What this means is that your Joint Occupational H&S Committee, Policy Committee and H&S Representative will be involved in all of the above. If you want your voice heard on any specific issues you would like to see included or identified, please reach out to Paula.
We do still have some concerns with items that have been left out of these new regulations, but are hopeful through our Committee access or Collective Bargaining we can overcome those as well.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to your Health & Safety Representative – Paula Hurley anytime.
